PARTY VENUE c/o BNS OFFICER’S CLUB, FORT BONIFACIO, TAGUIG

Deciding on which venue to hold the party was easy. In fact, I already thought of having the party at the O-club even before Manu was born. I knew that there would be zero stress in dealing with them because we had “connections”. Daddy Bobot was a former board member, while Ate Lorna, his former secretary, is part of the admin staff.

A month before the party, we went to the venue for an occular. I didn’t like it! I suddenly found myself scouring for a new venue. Panic mode! I seriously considered transferring but in the end, I decided to stick with O-Club. And I was happy that I did. They didn’t fail, and in fact, they even exceeded my expectations. I liked that they carpeted the stage area, and made sure that the restrooms were clean and have water. I was also impressed with the table arrangements – loved the color of the table and chair covers; the napkins were color-coordinated too. I was super happy with the fact that they didn’t charge us corkage. As expected, there weren’t any hassles when it came to dealing with them. I’d hold a party there anytime.

FOOD c/o BNS OFFICERS’ CLUB

We had two buffet stations – one for the adults and another one for the kids. If I’m going to base my rating on the pancit canton that I ate (since it was the only dish left by the end of the party), I’d give them a 10. (ang sarap eh… o baka naman gutom na gutom lang talaga ako nun…) Nobody complained naman and my mom said that the food was good, so I guess the rating is justified.

PRITSON c/o ATE LORNA’S CONTACT

I told Gats that the only food I’m going to eat during the party is the Pritson and Krispy Krepe. Wala akong nakain miski isa sa dalawang yun. But judging on how fast the Pritson flew off its table, I’d give it a 10.

SORBETES, BUY-THE-BUCKET, KRISPY KREPE FOOD CARTS c/o JELLY BELLIES

Nakakain din pala ako ng one small bucket of nachos from Buy-the bucket. I forgot to mention it earlier probably because I didn’t like how it tasted. It was extremely different from the ones being offered at their mall stalls. Their name is now scratched off my food-carts-to-rent list.

Meanwhile, Krispy Krepe was a hit. It’s just sad that I didn’t get to taste it! I was looking forward pa naman on grabbing a bite since I learned that their krepes are yummy. Anyway, I will bawi on my next party (which is most probably six years from now).

The ice cream cart (sorbetes) was also a hit. I saw everybody taking scoops and scoops, but at the end of the party, Gats and I were surprised that there were still a lot left.

THEME DECOR c/o JELLY BELLIES

I was sold on getting Jelly Bellies doing the party decors because of the great work they have done at previous clients parties. When it came to mine, they didn’t disappoint naman. They delivered what they promised (i found the checkered flags small though). I was disappointed, however, with myself. I could have requested for more balloons around the stage area. Ceiling drapes would have been nice too. I was also disappointed with the name tags they supplied. I couldn’t pin the blame on them since I was the one who decided to avail of their free nametags. I thought that the design would be the same as the one being supplied by the party shops – yung sticker type and cartoon-y yung dating. When I saw the nametags, I was horrified to see that it was just plain red paper cartolina with a simple drawing of a car. I wish I could have ordered from Adworks na lang.

ALEX AS PARTY HOST AND MAGICIAN c/o JELLY BELLIES

Alex was a hit with the guests (especially my dad who had the loudest laugh during the program). I wasn’t able to watch the entire show, but judging from the way he caught the guests’ attention, I’d give him a 10.

~

RYAN TORRES AS FACE PAINTER

There were positive and negative reviews on Ryan from n@w but since his rate is way more affordable than those contracted by party organizers, I decided to hire him. I just made sure that he had no other commitments during the day of the party (I texted him a number of times about this), and that he got the map of the venue. He arrived early during the party, and just painted away till the end of the day!

BALLOON TWISTER c/o JELLY BELLIES

The balloon twister was a last minute addition. Many thanks to Angelette as she was able to contact one just a few days before the party. I was glad that I hired a one since all the kids were happy with their balloons. Mr. balloon twister guy was also a welcome addition to Alex’s magic show. He was so kenkoy!

CARS BIRTHDAY CAKE c/o BAM NARVAEZ OF CAKEWORKS

I was initially targeting Sugarbox to do Manu’s cake. But when I didn’t get an immediate reply from them, I called Cakeworks. I liked Bam instantly since she immediately returned my call and was promptly replying to every query I had. Another plus was the fact that her quote was lower than Sugarbox’s. I didn’t have any difficulties in communicating with her though our exchanges were via sms only.

Bam gave me two cake designs a couple of weeks before the party. I think we had only two revisions before she got my go signal. I also made mention that I didn’t want the characters to look “pirated”. When the cake came, Gats noticed na medyo nabungi ata si Mater πŸ™‚ Baka nakipagsiksikan on the way to the party and in the process, natanggalan ng isang ngipin πŸ™‚ Overall, the cake, cupcake and lollie designs were okay. The taste was okay too. Just okay.

PHOTOS c/o SAM ORTIZ OF KIDDIE MOMENTS

Sam is a very good friend of ours. So good, he agreed to host our wedding for free! Yep, he hosted our wedding, and now, he’s doing the photos of my firstborn. I wasn’t supposed to get Mr. Versatile but he has such excellent timing, that on the day when I was about to book John Aguas, he announced that he just started his photography business. Of course, we couldn’t say no na.

So, Sam, what do I think of your photos? 1. We liked that you were able to capture of the emotions of our guests; 2. Some of the party details you weren’t able to shoot, so I was a bit disappointed when I didn’t see some of the pictures that I was expecting (e.g., entrance balloons, welcome banner, kids buffet, etc.); and 3. needs improvement but promising.

DIGITAL GUESTBOOK AND TARP LAYOUT c/o LETH ROBERTO

CARS BACKPACKS, TOY PRIZES AND GIVEAWAYS c/o DIVI SUPPLIERS

We were lucky that there were a lot of CARS themed items at Divi so we really didn’t have a difficult time looking for party loot. Went there three times to shop for party stuff and despite of the place, every trip was worth taking because of their mega-bargain-nobody-can-beat prices.

MANU’S CARS DRIVER’S SUIT c/o his TITA GAY

I was so happy with Tita Gay’s gift! Perfect for the party!

‘TEAM MANU’ EMBROIDERY c/o MADE 4 U, GLORIETTA, MAKATI

5!!!!!!

This supplier really ticked me off. Here’s the kwento:

We brought my ‘it’s-japeyks’ polo to this shop for embroidery (1st line: CREW CHIEF, 2nd line: Team MANU). A week after our service request, we went back to pick-up the finished product. I took a quick glance at it, faced my husband, and said, “ang cute noh…” Pero teka, one letter was missing from ‘CREW CHIEF’!!! Take a quick guess. It spelled something that would make me look like an F1 racer joining Iron Chef. If you guessed that the letter “I” was missing, then jackpot ka, mare. Imagine, my back read “CREW CHEF”? Ummm… Sorry… But cooking is not one of my strong points. Anyway, the sales staff admitted that it was their fault and they will correct it right away. They asked us to come back just a few hours later but we didn’t na. We just decided to come back for it the following week. When we returned, they couldn’t find my polo! One of the staff even mentioned, “Naku, baka naiuwi ni — yun” What?!? The shop lets its employees bring home customer’s things?!? And Hello?!!! Isang linggo na po kami hindi pumupunta! Bakit hindi niyo siya makita?!? I was beginning to feel the heat slowly filling up my face at this point, but I didn’t say a word. I knew that if I open my mouth, things wouldn’t be pretty. So I just stood there and swore not to leave until I had the shirt in my hands. Surprisingly, Gats was as cool as a cucumber (he later told me why he acted that way). I was already getting impatient and was about to open my mouth, when the attendant saw the polo under the messy pile of clothing. I inspected again, and this time, the words were correctly spelled. Buti naman. Despite the experience, Gats went to the shop a week later to have his shirt embroidered. Good thing they didn’t mess up this time.

My Special Thanks to the following:

~Daddy Bobot and Mommy Toots for being a major party sponsors. Sa uulitin po πŸ™‚

~Daddy Rudy and Mommy Linda, again, for being party sponsors πŸ™‚

~Ate Lorna, for making everything worry-free for Mommy Kelly

~To n@wies Pia for giving me the stall location of your backpack supplier; Melisse for your wonderful wonderful ideas; Leth for the guestbook, free tarp layout & free mug (excited nako makuha); and to everybody who helped me in planning My, Gats, and Manu’s 1st birthday party, THANK YOU!
